21 U.S. Destinations to Visit in 2021: Boston, Massachusetts

Jan 24, 2021 | Northeast, General Travel

One of the most walking-friendly cities in the United States, Boston consists of 24 unique neighborhoods, many of which have famous historic sites, world-class museums, and award-winning restaurants. Celebrate with all of the diverse communities during Boston Harborfest – 4th of July Festival, when over half a million people participate in over 200 events, including the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at the Esplanade along the Charles River. This bucket list event concludes with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture followed by drumrolls, real cannon fire, and the ringing of church bells throughout the city.

With the flowers blooming in beautiful Boston Public Garden, activities shift outdoors to the parks, public squares, and shopping districts across the city. Similarly, many of the popular tourist activities are also outdoor-oriented and include exploring the historic sites along the Freedom Trail, dining at one of the delicious Italian restaurants in the North End, or exploring the South End neighborhood for hidden gem cafes and shops. With the transformation of the Seaport District into one of the trendiest areas, it’s also much easier to access Boston’s deep-rooted Irish heritage in South Boston and take a pleasant walk around Castle Island. There’s no shortage of indoor activities as well— two of the most popular museums are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The entire family will enjoy a day at the Boston Children’s Museum, Museum of Science, or the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.

Extend your trip with a day in Cambridge exploring Harvard Square, the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, and the Harvard University Tours, all centrally located and easily accessible using public transportation. The diverse city of Somerville is also nearby and has become a foodie destination that is worth a visit to enjoy one of the highly rated restaurants.
